The truces were not unique to the Christmas period, and reflected a mood of "live and let live", where infantry close together would stop overtly aggressive behaviour and often engage in small-scale fraternisation, engaging in conversation or bartering for cigarettes. In some sectors, there were occasional ceasefires to allow soldiers to go between the lines and recover wounded or dead comrades; in others, there was a tacit agreement not to shoot while men rested, exercised or worked in view of the enemy. The Christmas truces were particularly significant due to the number of men involved and the level of their participation—even in very peaceful sectors, dozens of men openly congregating in daylight was remarkable—and are often seen as a symbolic moment of peace and humanity amidst one of the most violent events of human history.

The 1980s were a golden age for Tactical 1.0 "upgrades" that you could outfit your rimfire rifles with. Seen here are a pair of Ruger 10/22 rifles, outfitted with the latest Ramline folding stock, and other accessories made by a myriad of companies. You weren't ready to invade some South American island to rescue your kidnapped daughter if your rifle wasn't outfitted with accessories like this.

One of its most famous appearances was in James Bond movies, specifically Goldfinger and From Russia With Love, as a small rifle, that could break down and be stored in its own stock was very "spy like", and no doubt added to its popularity.

In the 1980s and 1990s, this humble .22 was unable to escape the first wave of "tactical" upgrades, from useful upgrades, to just plain silly ones like "military style" sights, out of cast plastics (think very cheap)

Charter Arms had even produced a pistol version. While it couldn't be full disassembled like the rifle, it was available in different barrel lengths, and included a storage compartment in the grip for a spare magazine.
